Akron Demolishes Miami 69-54

By Jason Roberts | January 5, 2008

Revenge is sweet isn’t it?  That’s what Zips fans were saying Saturday night as they left the jar content that their basketball team took the first major step to avenge their upset loss to the Redhawks in the MAC Tourney last season. The Zips won 69-54 against a Miami team with a much better RPI.  The score isn’t indicative of just how dominating Akron played.  Coming into tonight’s game, Miami’s RPI was 33 (Sagarin=57)while Akron’s was 108 (Sagarin=76).

One of the big keys to the victory was the Zips’ prolific 3-point shooting.  As a team, the Zips shot 50% (12-24) from downtown.  akron shot 23-46 from the field and 11-17 from the line.

Steve McNees lead the Zips off of the bench with 20 points including 6-6 from 3-point range.  McNees finished off a 14-point run with a spectacular 3-point shot just before the half.  Jeremiah Wood contributed 19 points, 7 rebounds.  Nick Dials scored 10 points while Quade Milum pulled down 5 rebounds.

With the win, Akron improves to 11-3 while Miami falls to 6-7.  Akron next travels to Buffalo on Saturday, January 12th and then will face Ohio at home on Thursday, January 17th.
